Losing a loved one can be devastating as an adult. The feeling of loss can be overwhelming. For a child the loss of a parent is the loss of ones role model. During this crucial development period, a child can be vulnerable to forces that erode the most important component of a healthy child, self-esteem. Shame over a parent's incarceration can compound the problem.

One of the building blocks of a child's self-esteem is developing a sense of self. This is done by learning new skills, setting and achieving goals, finding ones unique abilities and positive peer interaction.

When you sponsor a child, you give them the opportunity to learn new things and interact with other children and adults who care. Your contributions fund activities such as school field trips, music lessons, summer camp, and more. They give a child the opportunities that they might otherwise missed out on due to financial crisis.
